About Britt's work: Painterly, loose, and impressionistic are all words that could describe most of my work. In case those words don't mean anything to you, you could also describe it as (intentionally) not photorealistic. When I hear people talking about artists needing to have a specific style of their own, I get a little tinge of anxiety. When I've tried to buckle under the pressure of producing cohesive collections similar in style or subject, it has made my painting somehow less mine, and my work has suffered from lack of joyful freedom. It becomes "should" instead of "get to". That is not to say that I don't enjoy becoming more disciplined in quality of work. Knowing I can always keep learning and working toward a mastery I will never achieve is a beautiful idea to me. But the freedom to paint what I want, when I want, and with whatever detail or lack of detail that seems right at the time for that particular subject is a precious thing worthy of protecting!
